Selayang Pandang

Pantai Somandeng merupakan pantai karang berpasir putih. Pantai yang diapit dua tebing ini memiliki panjang kurang lebih 200 meter. Ombak yang datang pun tidak terlalu tinggi karena terpecah oleh tebing karang, namun diharapkan tetap berhati-hati ketika pasang datang.
Di pantai ini pengunjung dapat menyaksikan matahari tenggelam, yang jika beruntung, tenggelam di ujung lautan.

Lokasi

Pantai ini terletak di Tepus, Gunungkidul di sebelah barat Pantai Pulang Syawal atau yang lebih dikenal dengan Pantai Indrayanti.

Jalur pertama melalui pusat kota dan melewati kecamatan Tanjungsari. Jalur ini tidak direkomendasikan untuk kendaraan besar karena jalannya yang berkelok-kelok dan naik turun dengan lebar jalan sekitar 4 meteran, sehingga akan kesulitan apabila berpapasan dengan bus.

Jalur kedua melalui kecamatan Tepus, jalur ini juga memiliki jalur berkelok meskipun tidak sebanyak jalur Tanjungsari. Namun pengemudi kendaraan besar diharapkan tetap berhati-hati ketika melalui jalur yang memiliki lebar jalan 4-5 meter ini.

Jalur ketiga adalah melalui kecamatan Paliyan dan tembus di JJLS, Jalur ini memiliki lebar antara 4-6 meter dengan kelokan yang minim dan hampir tidak ada tanjakan. Jalur ini sangat direkomendasikan untuk dilewati kendaraan besar, apalagi jalan ini terhubung dengan JJLS Gunungkidul.

Untuk tempat parkir kendaraan, pantai ini hanya mampu menampung hingga mobil, itupun dengan jumlah yang terbatas. Alternatif lain, pengunjung dapat memarkirkan kendaraannya di pantai Pulang Syawal (Indrayanti) dan berjalan menuju pantai Somandeng yang berjarak sekitar 50 meter dari pantai Pulang Syawal.
