Watu Lawang memiliki hamparan pasir pantai yang panjangnya mencapai 200 meter. Pantai berpasir putih ini diapit oleh dua buah bukit batu yang tentu saja menambah keindahan pantai ini. Dari salah satu bukit tersebut kita dapat menikmati deburan ombak berbuih. Selain itu ada sebuah batu kecil yang menjorok ke arah pantai di salah satu sisi bukitnya. Kita dapat naik keatasnya dan menikmati percikan pecahan ombak ketika ada ombak yang menabrak batu karang tersebut.
Jika air sedang surut kita dapat berjalan di sepanjanga karang. Namun kita harus tetap berhati-hati karena ada sedikit jurang di tepi karang tersebut.

Jalur pertama melalui pusat kota dan melewati kecamatan Tanjungsari. Jalur ini tidak direkomendasikan untuk kendaraan besar karena jalannya yang berkelok-kelok dan naik turun dengan lebar jalan sekitar 4 meteran, sehingga akan kesulitan apabila berpapasan dengan bus.

Jalur kedua melalui kecamatan Tepus, jalur ini juga memiliki jalur berkelok meskipun tidak sebanyak jalur Tanjungsari. Namun pengemudi kendaraan besar diharapkan tetap berhati-hati ketika melalui jalur yang memiliki lebar jalan 4-5 meter ini.

Jalur ketiga adalah melalui kecamatan Paliyan dan tembus di JJLS, Jalur ini memiliki lebar antara 4-6 meter dengan kelokan yang minim dan hampir tidak ada tanjakan. Jalur ini sangat direkomendasikan untuk dilewati kendaraan besar, apalagi jalan ini terhubung dengan JJLS Gunungkidul.

Untuk mencapai pantai ini, kita dapat menggunakan petunjuk arah ke Pantai Indrayanti hingga bertemu jalan konblok tepat ditikungan jalan. Ikuti jalan tersebut sekitar 200 meter hingga jalan berupa tanah berbatu. Ikut jalan tersebut hingga sekitar 300 meter.

Jalan secara keseluruhan memiliki lebar tidak sampai 3 meter yang membuat akan kesulitan ketika ada dua buah mobil yang berpapasan untuk keluar dan masuk.

Pantai Watu Lawang hanya dapat menampung kendaraan sepeda motor dan mobil dalam jumlah terbatas karena keterbatasan lahan parkir. Sedangkan untuk bus pariwisata dapat parkir di tempat parkir Pantai Pulang Syawal dan berjalan kaki menuju pantai Watu Lawang.
